PRESS RELEASE

The SIRENS of BROOKLYN will perform their third annual Holiday Benefit Concert at historic Plymouth Church in Brooklyn Heights on Wednesday, December 7 at 7:30pm. Proceeds will benefit the Somaly Mam Foundation, a nonprofit charity committed to ending modern-day slavery and
empowering its survivors (www.somaly.org).

The choir is a super group of New York songstresses including Joy Askew, Amy Merrill (Sidecar), Cat Martino, Courtney Kaiser (of KaiserCartel), Kendall Meade (Mascott), Holly Nadal (M6), Dawn Landes (Bandana Splits), Liz Tormes, Greta Gertler (OWS choir), and many more.

The evening¹s concert will feature Christmas and seasonal songs including traditional carols, gospel, medieval chant, eastern European folksong, and a cappella pop-song. Think pretty dresses, unadorned vocal acoustics, shimmering harmonies, a bit of hand clapping, and the occasional stringed instruments. Modern women sing songs of olde.

Plymouth Church, a National Historic Landmark, provides a beautiful setting with pristine acoustics and an inspiring history. Slavery has been fought at Plymouth since its founding in 1847. The home pulpit of famed abolitionist preacher Henry Ward Beecher, it held deep ties to the Underground Railroad, welcomed Abraham Lincoln to worship, and a century later brought Dr.Martin Luther King Jr. to Brooklyn for an early version of his "I Have a Dream" speech in Washington DC.

The December 7 concert with Sirens of Brooklyn is co-sponsored by the Underground Thrift Store, Plymouth¹s new fundraising initiative which donates 25% of proceeds to organizations that fight human trafficking and modern-day slavery. In support of the Sirens of Brooklyn benefit, the
Underground will have special store hours an hour before the concert (enter at 65 Hicks Street) and during the post-performance reception, with 25% of proceeds to benefit Somaly Mam.

The church today is a vibrant part of the Brooklyn Heights community and you definitely feel the energy and history when you step into the white and red sanctuary. Don¹t miss this rare chance to hear this unique collaboration of singers joining their glorious voices for a worthy cause.
